members of society ABOUT THE DISTRICT River Delta is a K-12
district with an enrollment of 1,880. The District has 8 small
schools: (4) K-6 elementary schools; (2) middle schools; and (2)
high schools serving the communities of Clarksburg, Hood,
Courtland, Walnut Grove, Ryde, Locke, Isleton, Rio Vista, Birds
Landing, and Collinsville. The River Delta Unified School District
sits in three counties – Sacramento, Solano, and Yolo. Although it
is a tri-county district, it is served by the Sacramento County
Office of Education. River Delta Unified School District is
committed to providing a quality education for all students and has
high standards and expectations for students' success in school. We

and that our clients' expectations for educational excellence are
not compromised. The District continually improves and expands its
curriculum by implementing new programs and broadening the
instructional strategies used in the classroom. Staff development

for advanced classes taken to improve instruction in areas agreed
upon by the teacher, principal, and Superintendent. RIVER DELTA
UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT I DEFINITION Under
supervision, observes and monitors students, facilities, and
parking area of assigned school; and performs routine clerical
duties in support of school operations. DISTINGUISHING
CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry level class in the Instructional
Assistant series. This class is distinguished from the
Instructional Assistant II, which requires the performance of more
complex tasks and duties assisting students in the classroom and
providing support to teachers which require ability to work with
written materials and prepare written reports. This class differs
from Instructional Assistant III in that the latter requires
additional training for assisting students that have learning or
physical disabilities. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives
general supervision from Principal, Vice Principal, or assigned
teacher. DUTIES Essential Functions: Assist teachers in the
classroom; circulate in the classroom and work with students
requiring additional assistance. Provide supportive assistance to
teachers, including copying, typing, filing and related clerical
functions, compile material for lesson plans. Monitors the grounds
and facilities of assigned school campus including lunch areas,
restrooms, parking areas, locker rooms, and meeting the school bus;
enforce school and District rules and regulations; recommend
disciplinary actions, as necessary. Assist in set-up and serve
during morning nutrition. Supervises or assists in the supervision
of student eating areas; enforces school procedures related to
eating areas including cleaning lunch tables, trash disposal, and
related matters. Supervises playground activities of students
during lunch and recess; prevents rough and dangerous play
activities and ensures that students stay in designated areas. Uses
positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques
to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior and
an appreciation of human diversity; promotes and encourages high
standards for student behavior; encourages a clean campus
environment. Ensure that school regulations, rules, and policies
regarding student behavior and safety are followed, reports
violations of school rules or illegal actions to administrators
when appropriate. Ensure that no unauthorized persons are on the
school grounds during lunch and recess and that students do not
leave the grounds during that time without permission, reports
presence of unauthorized persons to appropriate administrators.
Assists in emergencies; uses good judgment regarding appropriate
action to assist an injured or physically ill student; may
administer minor first aid; summons further aid as necessary;
reports accidents. Reports on unsafe conditions. Performs a variety
of routine clerical duties in support of school operations
including, but not limited to, copying, laminating, and binding
materials, and preparing materials for distribution. May supervise
students in a classroom or during various activities. Consistent
and regular attendance is required due to the nature of the job.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Marginal Functions: 1. Ensure a safe and clean learning environment
for students. Prepare displays. Attends trainings and meetings for
the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to
perform functions and receiving updated current information on best
practices as directed by the site or District administrator.
Perform miscellaneous clerical functions as needed. Basic computer
skills for emails, training, and student assistance. May
interpret/translate communications to parents/students if
necessary. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Rules and regulations
concerning school campus control, security, and safety. Techniques
and methods of student supervision. Acceptable methods used in
controlling students in various situations, Student behavior
management strategies and techniques. Effective methods of
controlling student behavior. Basic English, grammar, and
arithmetic. Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment. Basic
first aid and CPR. Ability to: Supervise, monitor and assist
students. Work effectively with students. Understand and carry out
oral and written instructions. Communicate clearly and concisely,
both orally and in writing, effectively with adults and students.
Maintain emotional control and composure under stressful situations
and in difficult situations; effectively react to emergencies.
Perform effectively and assertively in situations requiring tact,
diplomacy and good judgment. Appropriately manage student behavior
and guide students toward acceptable social behavior. Perform
routine clerical work. Establish and maintain effective working
relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Maintain
effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for
successful job performance. Observe, identify, and report
potentially dangerous or illegal situations. Project voice and
communicate effectively with others. Move rapidly and freely about
the entire campus. Assist injured students. Maintain
confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.
Demonstrate an understanding of warmth, open-mindedness, respect
for human dignity, genuine interest in people, sensitive to the
needs of others. Understand and apply rules, regulations,
procedures, and policies. Present self as a positive representative
of the organization. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES Any
combination of experience and training that would likely provide
the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way
to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Some
experience in dealing with school-age children in a formal or
informal environment; demonstrated experience in dealing with
situations involving conflict is desirable. Training: Formal or
informal education or training which ensures the ability to read
and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Bilingual (Spanish)
preferred, not required. License or Certificate: Possession of or
ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR and First Aid
Certification. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environmental Conditions: Work
is performed primarily on a school campus and is primarily
outdoors. Physical Conditions: Primary functions require sufficient
physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to
stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop,
bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or
pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office
equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination
including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate
to exchange information. Able to lift thirty (30) pounds
frequently, and eighty (80) pounds or more occasionally with or
without assistance. Able to carry up to thirty (30) pounds
frequently, and eighty (80) pounds or more occasionally with or
without assistance. Able to push and pull objects weighing up to
eighty (80) pounds or more occasionally with or without assistance.
Able to demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to assist students
with buttoning clothing, eating, operating a computer or assist
staff with student toileting procedures. Able to use safety
equipment and devices designated for this position. Ability to read
printed directions or instructions. Ability to see, hear, speak,
