Description
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders
II/III assigned to the Gilroy Youth Center or Facility Attendant
duties. The main goal of the City of Gilroy's Recreation Department
is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community
members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and
community through people, parks, programs, and special events which
are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality
recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy
residents.
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Coordinator or Recreation
Specialist and indirect supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the
Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the
physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned
recreation programs. Program areas include, but are not limited to,
Adaptive (Special Needs), Adult, and/or Youth sports, After School
Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special
Events, Summer Camps, and Youth Center/ Youth Services.
When assigned to Youth Services, the position provides an
opportunity to gain experience running recreation programs,
communicating with parents, and serving as a role model for
high-risk youth, gang prone or involved youth. When assigned as a
Facility Attendant, the position provides an opportunity to provide
excellent customer service, support the facility rental program,
and work interpedently. As related experience is gained as noted in
the job qualifications and requirements, and with the
recommendation in the employee's performance evaluation, Recreation
Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader
III. As the employee advances through the job series the employee
will take on more responsibility and more challenging work
assignments.

Ideal Candidate
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL
* Have great communication skills (be able to communicate with
parents, participants, GUSD staff, recreation staff, facility
users, etc.).
* Be able to relate to the youth, but draw a line of who is in
charge.
* Serve as a role model and be reliable and punctual
* Have experience assisting with the supervision of children and
assisting with classroom responsibilities.
* Have experience leading activities, sports games or arts and
crafts.
* Be energetic and bring enthusiasm to assigned program every
day.
* Be able to work independently when performing facility attendant
duties.
* Be responsible to open, prepare, and close facilities on time and
ensure the facility is safely used by participants and/or
renters.
* Be able to set up tables, chairs and other equipment as needed
which may required lifting and moving heavy items.
